Sony is one of the largest and oldest consumer electronics giant in the history. You may have heard of Sony and even used some of its products, but you may not know much about its origin. Sony was founded right after World War 2 ended, in 1946, by Masaru Ibuka as an electronics shop in a department store building in Tokyo. It had $530 in capital and 8 employees. He was later joined by Akio Morita, and they formed a company name Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo. In 1958, the Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo company name was changed to a much shortened "Sony". The most notable product ever produced by Sony was the Walkman, in 1979. It was equivalent to the iPod of modern days (perhaps even more significant back then). Sony's products are generally well made, well featured and well priced for their purposes.Presently, Sony is headquartered in Kōnan, Minato, Tokyo, with highly diversified businesses. Sony's divisions includes professional and consumer electronics, gaming gear, movies and even financial services. Sony is one of the largest companies in the world, currently ranked 113th in Fortune Global 500 (as of 2016).
